Shows from the

Women of Asia
Theatre Company

Background

Founded in 2004 by Writer/Director Asa Palomera, Women of Asia Company became "...a powerhouse on Melbourne's independent theatre scene." (The Age, Nov, 2005)

Demanding high production values and a beautiful, simple aesthetic sensibility, Asa's work focuses primarily on passionate, human storytelling.

The company announced both its arrival and its intentions with the highly praised "Monologues" at Chapel off Chapel, a powerful, and occasionally hilarious, collection of Asian women's stories, which sold out in its second and final week.

Next came "A walk through the life of Shakespeare and Cervantes" in conjunction with the Melbourne Writer's Festival. After the initial sellout show at the Malthouse's Beckett Theatre, the show moved to a run at Chapel off Chapel which also sold out.

Last came the more personal and intense Prodigal Daughter. After an initial run at Trades Hall's Old Council Chambers it enjoyed a return season at Chapel off Chapel, after much praise and public demand
